✦ Synopsis

Abstract

It is shown that the determination of apparent pK‐values of aliphatic dicarboxylic acids in the nonaqueous solvent systems methylcellosolve/water and dimethylformamide/water by a previously described micromethod yields thermodynamically undefined values, which however show the same relative trend as thermodynamical pK‐values measured in water. They are therefore liable to be correlated with the structure of acids by the usual semiquantitative rules.

## Abstract Apparent pK‐values have been determined for 56 aromatic acids in the solvent system methylcellosolve (80 wt.‐ %)/water (20 wt.‐ %) with a previously described fully automatic titration apparatus. The validity of the __Hammett__ equation was tested and found to express the experimental d
