Sunznzavy: From the feeding of young plants of Stvyclmos nux-vomica with [14C]-land [14C]-2acetate it could be deduced that the C-atoms 22 and 23 were derived irom acetate. [14C]-Zmevalonatc, [14C]-2-geraniol and [14C]-2-geranyl pyrophosphate were also incorporated into strychnine. The distribution of radioactivity in the Q inevalonatc-strychnine)) was in agreement with the monoterpenoid hypothesis. Feeding experiments especially with [14C]-tryptophane showed that the main production centre of the alkaloid lay in the ruots and that only a small part of it was carried to the Icavcs. Tritium labellcd WIELAND CunfLIcH aldetrycle as wcll as N(,)-[14C]-l-acctyl WIELAND GUntLIcH aldehyde were not converted into strychnine by S . nux-vornaca.
Das Alkaloid Stryclinin (I) aus verschiedenen
Strychnos-Arten unterscheidet sicli von anderen C,, -,,-Indolalkaloiden durch die zusatzliche Anwesenheit einer das N,,,und das Atom C(17) verbindenden C,-Rriicke (C(22)-C(23)). In einer vorlaufigen Mitteilung [Z] wurde gezeigt, dass diese zwei Atome aus Acetat stammen. Im folgenden werden nun diese und weitere Versuche ausfuhrlich beschrieben.
