other bivalent 3d-metal ions, the binding of the metal ion involves only the phosphate group at neutral or weakly acid pH, whereas at higher pH these complexes are deprdtonated with simultaneous formation of a chelate at the o-amino-N(1)-oxide group. This behaviour can be explained in terms of the coordination tendency of the two coordination sites in the adenosine-5'-monophosphate-N (1)-oxide molecule towards the respective metal ions, if proper account is taken of the concurrent coordination of protons.
