The following zinc (II), cadmium (II) and mercury (II) complexes of 2-methyl-benzothiazole (2Mebt = L) have been prepared and studied by conductometric methods, i.r. and Raman spectra: ML2X 2 (M=Zn, X=CI, I, NO3; M=Cd, X=NO3, C104; M=Hg, X=NO3) , ML1.5X 2 (M=Zn, X=C104 (H20); M=Hg, X=C104) and MLX 2

Abstract
A number of compounds of general formula M(PPO)~n~X~2~ are described, the metal ion being Zn(II), Cd(II) and Hg(II) and the anions Cl^β^, Br^β^, I^β^, NO~3~^β^, ClO~4~^β^ and NCS^β^; PPO stands for 2,5βdiphenyloxazole and n = 1, 2, 4.
The complexes are prepared by reaction of the corresponding metal salts with the molten ligand in the required stoicheiometrical ratio and are characterized by chemical analyses and physical measurements.
Their stereochemistry has been assigned on the basis of IR, far IR spectroscopy and molar conductivity values. The ligand PPO is shown to coβordinate with metal ions via the loneβpair electrons of the nitrogen atom. All the complexes have generally a distorted tetrahedral stereochemistry.
