Zero charge potential of metals
In place of the common reference hydrogen scale, electrode potentials can be advantageously referred to the potential of zero charge of the metal in question. The use of this rational scale of potentials is particularly valuable when the effect of the structure of the electrical double layer on the kinetics of the electrode processes is considered 1 -v.
Values of zero charge potentials depend on the medium in which they are determined and they are also often affected by the experimental method of measurement. Comprehensive reviews are available on the theoretical and experimental aspects of the zero charge potential 8-1Β°. Here some data about the zero charge potential of the most common metals in different media are collected (Table ).
