Satellite structure to one side of the 4f photoelectron lines of a number of thorium compounds has been investigated. The origin of these and similar lines observed in uranium compounds is discussed together with those recorded near the 3d phoioekron signals of lanthanide compounds.

The extra peak. located at LX 13.6 eV on the high-bilidin~~ner~y side of the cure levels cf titenium in rutile, : anafase and barium titanate, probably arises from a shake-up process involving an O(2p) -, Ti(4s) transition. :

## XF'S spectra of a number of paramagnetic Co compounds are studied and the correlation bctween the intensity of thc Co 2~3,~ satellite and the mapitude of its magnetic moment is shown. A new approach is put forward to e?rpIti the experimental data.
