✦ Synopsis

L edge absorption spectra of PdClz have been obtained with synchrotron radiation. These results arc compared with those of Pd metal. It is found that their near edge structure can be understood qualitatively on the basis of dipole transition and the conventional description of bonding in these systems.

The near-edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) of Ni(110)-p2mg(2 Γ— 1)-CO with tilted CO molecules in short-bridge adsorption sites has been studied at the oxygen K edge. An additional structure is observed between the rr and tr resonances the energy position of which is different in the (100
