Abstract
A novel wide stopband and sharp‐rejection low‐pass filter (LPF) using the double spiral resonators and shunt stubs was presented, although the proposed structure did not introduce any defected ground patterns. It was found that the uniplanar double spiral resonator embedded in the patch of conventional microstrip line has band‐stop properties, and the frequency response can be adjusted by tuning the geometry parameters with ease. Then, four double spiral resonator units and shunt stubs were integrated to synthesize a LPF prototype with the help of full‐wave simulation tool. The proposed prototype was fabricated and tested. Subsequently, measured results indicated that the relative bandwidth of the −20 dB insert loss is ∼160%, and the sharpness is 89. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
