✦ Synopsis

The wetting properties of PbB1SrCaCuO (BiSCO) ceramic by liqmd silver and Its Cu, Pb and Bi alloys have been studied by measuring the contact angle vs. contact time and concentration ranging from 1 to 7 at%, under air atmosphere. While all these alloys were found to promote wettability, the most efficient was Ag-Cu (> 4 at %), giving a contact angle as low as 18 Β°. The cb__t~ are analyzed in terms of a simple model that includes effects of interracial segregation on interracial tension, showing the different role of Cu compared to Pb or Bi. These f'mdings have important implications for opttmizing the transport properties m SUlmrconducting-metal composite systems, some of which have recently received considerable attention due to potential technological applications.

A series of experiments on Ag-Cu and Ag-Pb alloys were performed in a wide range of compositions from 10 wt.% Cu to 25 wt.% Cu and from 1.2 wt.% Pb to 18 wt.% Pb. Each composition was solidified by three different cooling rates 103, 3 x 103 K s-1 and 105 K s-1. The Ag-Cu system showed a dendritic so
