Abstract

An analysis of Nimbus 5 Selective Chopper Radiometer data supports the measurements of Bignell (1970) and Watkins et al. (1979) which both show considerable ‘e‐type’ absorption by water vapour in the 3.5‐4.2 μm atmospheric window.

## Abstract Results are presented from an experimental programme in the atmosphere to determine water vapour absorption in the 10–12μm atmospheric window. Radiation measurements have been made with upward and downward looking multi‐channel radiometers from an aircraft. Midlatitude and tropical cond
