## Abstract An analysis of Nimbus 5 Selective Chopper Radiometer data supports the measurements of Bignell (1970) and Watkins __et al.__ (1979) which both show considerable ‘e‐type’ absorption by water vapour in the 3.5‐4.2 μm atmospheric window.
