โœฆ Synopsis

Abstract

The vibrational spectra of norbornadiene (NBD) and (NBD)M(CO)~4~ (M ๏ฃพ Cr, Mo, W) have been investigated in detail for the first time. Partial vibrational assignments have been made for all four molecules with particular attention being paid to the C ๏ฃฟ H, CO, C ๏ฃพ C, and Mโ€olefin stretching modes and the ฮด(CH~2~) bending modes. From the spectroscopic data, it appears that the C~2ฮฝ~ geometry of the norbornadiene ligand is little affected by coordination.

## Abstract The photoelectron spectra of the hydrocarbons **1** to **4** have been recorded and interpreted by qualitative correlation with the spectra of their subsystems norbornadiene, quadricyclane, allene and cyclopropane. It has been shown that the interactions of the symmetry adapted orbital
