Temperature-dependent dephasing of 511, 766 and 1385 cm-' modes in the mixed crystals of naphthalene and perdeuteronaphthalene at various isotopic levels have been studied by picosecond CARS in the region of 6-130 K. In general, adding the isotope shows a significant effect on the low-temperature de

โฆ Synopsis
Picosecond delayed CARS expenments on totally symmetric modes in naphthalene at 1.5 K are reported. The Raman hneshape of the vlbratlonal excltons 1s lorentzm and viirahonal relaxation can be surpnsingly slow. The Raman lineshape of the Ag exclton level of the 766 cm-' vlbrahonal mode reveals that the low-temperature lorentzian lmeshape occurs by mouonal narrowmg At hugher temperature the excrton LS trapped by mterachon with lattice phonons.

Vibrational relaxation is measured in amino acid crystals at various temperatures by picosecond CARS spectroscopy. Low-frequency (40-l 25 cm-') torsional modes, librons, have liietimes which can exceed 4 ns. The decrease in lifetime with libron frequency and with temperature is determined primarily
