โœฆ Synopsis

Small transverse oscillation of an endless band supported by wheels couples the response of the free spans of the band to oscillation of the wheels. The coupling arises from the finite curvature of the free spans of the band when it's bending stiffness is finite. Significant modeling error can occur if a single span of the band is modeled as a simply supported, axially moving beam. The coupling provides an opportunity to dissipate vibration energy. Experiments and finite element analyses support the coupling discussion presented.

The steady mechanics of multi-layered metal belts used in metal-pushing continuously variable transmissions (CVT) are examined where the thin individual bands are modeled as axially moving strings. For each band, the main characteristics of classic flat belt models, such as band inertia, tension/spe

One of the most important factors in a belt-driven system is tension acting on the belt because it significantly affects the life of belt as well as the efficiency and quality of power transmission. The tension in the flexible belt consists of both static and dynamic components, which should contain
