A set of psychoacoustical data was subject to a model description. The measurements were concerned with the hearing sensation of fluctuation strength, evoked by slow and periodic amplitudemodulation of tones. The best description for the subjective fluctuation strength of such signals is given by a simple model valid between 40 dB and 80 dB SPL : the fluctuation depths of the (psychoacoustical) excitation levels produced in each critical band are summed up. Possible extensions of the model are discussed.
