✦ Synopsis

Techniques are discussed whereby liquid helium consumption can be reduced by extension of the range of use of nitrogen. The vapour pressure-temperature relationship has been determined for commercial high-purity nitrogen from the triple point down to 45 K; this data conforms to the expression IogloP = 7.614676-356.281/7-to within a 1% pressure deviation. A value of 63. 148 K has been deduced for the triple point temperature on IPTS of 1968; this corresponds to a pressure of 93.905 mm Hg. Our data is compared with some earlier data which extends down to 30 K.
