โฆ Synopsis
This study presents data on the performance of chronic undifferentiated schizophrenic patients on the Trail Making Test (TMT), and compares the performance of these subjects with that of the brain damaged and control subjects as presented in the TMT manual. The TMT did not differentiate between brain damaged subjects and the schizophrenic subjects of this study. It was suggested that poor performance on the TMT may be the result of some secondary symptoms which accompanied both brain damage and schizophrenia.
The study also presents correlations between TMT times and the MMPI scoring for our schizophrenic population. Poor performance on the TMT was positively correlated with scores on most of the MMPI scales, and especially with the psychotic scales (PA, Sc, and MA). It was concluded that any psychiatric symptomatology probably retards TMT performance.
