Eingegangen am 2 . 9.1983) Xystatin was used to develop a new method to selert spores of the yeast Saccharomycopsis lipolytica. At low concentrations nystatin killed preferently growing cells of this yeast. At high concentrations nongrowing cells were affected as well. I n contrast, spores mere not sensitive to nystatin action. This differential response t o the antibiotic suggested its use to select spores from sporulated yeast cultures.

The glucose analogues 2-deoxyglucose and n-glucosamine repressed the production of extracellular endodextranase in the yeast Lipomyces starkeyi. Though both analogues were successfully used for the selective isolation of derepressed and hyperproductive mutants, 2-deoxyglucose proved to be superior t
