The vehicle -which has a payload capacity of 150 kgis being leased free of charge to FedEx for weekday operation, with GM providing all vehicle engineering; maintenance and data collection will be handled on weekends. The vehicle's 400 km (250 mile) driving range on 68 liters of liquid hydrogen is claimed to be the highest of any FCV approved for public roads in Japan.

Earlier this year GM announced a partnership with Shell to provide hydrogen refueling for a fleet of HydroGen3 FCVs in Washington, DC [FCB, May], and is working on a plan to install 500 GM stationary fuel cell units at the giant Dow Chemical facility in Freeport, Texas in what would be the world's largest fuel cell power deal yet [FCB, July].
