✦ Synopsis

Resection of Hepatic and Pulmonary Metastases in Patients with Colorectal Carcinoma

W e read with interest the article by Ambiru et al. 1 concerning the resection of colorectal hepatic and pulmonary metastases. In a population of 156 patients with resected hepatic metastases from colorectal carcinoma, they identified 6 in whom pulmonary metastasectomy was performed. They concluded that hepatic and pulmonary metastasectomy can result in long term survival for selected patients.

Recently, we analyzed data on 239 patients who underwent colorectal pulmonary metastasectomy at the thoracic surgery departments of two French institutions during the period 1970 -1995. Among these patients, 43 (18%) underwent hepatic resection for

Syndecan-1 is a transmembrane proteoglycan expressed predominantly in epithelial cells. Studies with immunohistochemistry have shown that syndecan-1 expression is reduced in carcinoma derived from human epidermis. Here we show that syndecan-1 mRNA, which is abundant in human primary keratinocyte (HK

The mannose-6-phosphate/insulin-like growth factor 2 receptor (Man-6-P/IGFII receptor) is involved in lysosomal enzyme sorting, IGFII degradation and pro-TGFbeta activation. Genetic alterations in hepatocarcinomas and a few breast cancers suggest that this receptor behaves as a tumor suppressor. Mor

The 9p21-23 chromosome region harbors a number of known and putative tumor-suppressor genes (TSGs). The best characterized gene in this area is p16 INK4A (CDKN2A). Alterations of its product have been observed in various malignancies, including non-small-cell lung carcinomas (NSCLCs). We earlier inv
