Abstract

A simple, inexpensive inlet system was developed for the introduction of liquid and solid samples, to be employed in commercial gas chromatographic/mass spectrometric instruments, and not requiring sample injection through the chromatographic column. The system does not need any modifications of the ion source housing and pumping system and is based on admitting the sample vapour as an underflow to the normal helium flow through the chromatographic column at a location near the transfer line.
