imputations of Miner's ruIe are revealed a priori as leading to inaccurate and even contradictory results. This is due to incompatibitity with basic physical laws. A part of these imperfections can be ruled out by a new method of accumulated damage calculation. It is demonstrated that life prediction is thus improved and that practical application is reasonably easy. A first appreciation of strong and weak points is given.

Ahatract-A nonlinear damage accumulation hypothesis that generalizes the well-known Palmgren-Miner theory is considered. The new theory is nonstationary and leads to changes of the shape of the lifetime distribution under random load. A scaled nonstationary damage accumulation theory is also studied
