Ahatract-A nonlinear damage accumulation hypothesis that generalizes the well-known Palmgren-Miner theory is considered. The new theory is nonstationary and leads to changes of the shape of the lifetime distribution under random load. A scaled nonstationary damage accumulation theory is also studied. Examples of lifetime distributions under random load with increasing, decreasing and bathtub shaped failure rates are considered.
