Two-dimensional short-range spin correlation was studied in LSCO and La2\_xSrxCu1\_yZny04 by means of susceptibility measurement of the normal state. We found that the appearance ot the susceptl-bi1ity maximum coupled with itinerant holes or the disappearance of it due to Zn substitution was strongl
