โœฆ Synopsis

Two-dimensional short-range spin correlation was studied in LSCO and La2_xSrxCu1_yZny04 by means of susceptibility measurement of the normal state. We found that the appearance ot the susceptl-bi1ity maximum coupled with itinerant holes or the disappearance of it due to Zn substitution was strongly related to the appearance or disappearance of the superconductivity, respectively.

T max obtained in LSCO and LSCZO is plotted as a function of x. The solid curve is guide for eyes based on the data (see text).

The two-dimensional spin-correlation energy, J, was studied in La2\_~rxCu04 by means of magnetic susceptibility measurements. We found that J, deduced from the susceptibility peak temperature, T\_, changed drastically with the character of the doped holes, localized or itinerant. In the low carrier
