This paper reviews recent progress in broadband Raman amplifiers for WDM applications. After the fundamentals of Raman amplifiers are discussed in contrast to erbium-doped fiber amplifiers, basic characteristics of multi-wavelength pumped Raman amplifiers are presented, and the design procedure is s
