The efficiency of photoelectron ejection from the reduced form of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADH) in aqueous solution of pH 8.6 was studied as a function of the laser energy by measuring the transient eaq absorption appearing on nanosecond laser excitation at 355 nm. It was found that this

โฆ Synopsis
Electron ejection from dihydroflavin mononucleotide was obtained on exposure of this compound in aqueous solution to the third harmonic (355 nm) of a Q-switched Nd/YAG laser. This reaction was studied at different flavin concentrations, laser fluences and laser pulse widths. The results could be accounted for by assuming that the photo-ionization is due to stepwise two-photon excitation of the flavin via an intermediate of approximately 1 ns lifetime; this intermediate was attributed to the flavin triplet state.
