Charge carrier generation jn~-~e~henyl crystal is studied empfo+g puIsed excitation with ;I dye laser_ The number of phorogenerated carriers is found to be proportional to 13, x\hercI is rhe intensit)-of the exciting Ii&r nt 590 nm. The fluerescence intensity 1s proportional to I2 under the same conditions_ The results are Interpreted in terms of the phoroionization of two-photon ewltcd singlet excitons. A coefficwxt of (2.1 k O-8) X 10-50 cm4 Jphoton for the wo-photon absorptlon at 590 nm inp-terphenyl crystal is obtained_
