Result~s rind Discussion.

The general design of Goldberger ( 4) is superior to other blade slicers (56) in strength, ease of slicing, and overall convenience. The modification presented in this paper works very well when used with the Goldberger procedure on standard analytical gels described by Davis (7). The modified gel slicer uses blades that are readily available, cheaper in cost, and easily replaced. A change to l/l6 in. aluminum plate for spacers greatly reduces building costs while increasing the gel thickness by only 0.1 mm.

Summary. The polyacrylamide gel slicer described by Goldberger in 1968 contained two critical parts which are no longer commercially available. Design changes are presented which allow for construction of this device at reduced cost, using readily available parts.
