## Abstract A novel compact microstrip antenna design is demonstrated. By embedding meandering slots in the antenna's ground plane, it is observed that the resonant frequency of the microstrip antenna is significantly lowered, which can lead to a large antenna size reduction for a fixed frequency o

โฆ Synopsis
Abstract
This paper presents a twoโarm microstrip spiral antenna with a circular aperture on the ground plane that produces either an axial beam or a tilted beam, depending on the operating frequency. A 50โฮฉ microstrip feedline is divided into two 100โฮฉ lines that feed the spiral antenna from the outer end of the spiral arms with a 180ยฐ phase difference at f~o~. The antenna is realized on a planar form without any balun circuit using a microstrip structure, which is easily compatible with millimeterโ and microwaveโintegrated circuits. ยฉ 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. ## Abstract A method for the computation of radiation patterns of microstrip antennas on a finite ground plane is presented. The method is based on the geometrical theory of diffraction and the 2D physical optics model. The diffraction of space waves and surface waves is taken into consideration. ยฉ
