โœฆ Synopsis


Colourless single crystals of Na 3 YCl 6 , crystallizing in the cryolite structure type and isotypic with Na 3 GdCl 6 -II and Na 3 MCl 6 (M = Sc, DyยฑLu), were prepared from a ยฏux of YCl 3 , NaCN and NaN 3 ; the trivalent yttrium is octahedrally coordinated by chlorine atoms with an average YรCl distance of 2.62 A รŠ . The Y atom and one Na atom lie on centres of symmetry.
