✦ Synopsis
In the title complex, [Gd(L) 2 (CHO 2 )(H 2 O) 3 ] (L À = 4-formyl-2-methoxyphenolate anion, C 8 H 7 O 3 ), the Gd III ion occupies a site with mirror symmetry and assumes a bicapped triangular prismatic coordination environment de®ned by four O atoms from two L À ligands, three O atoms from three coordinated water molecules and one O atom from a formate group. The formate group and one water molecule lie on a mirror plane. A three-dimensional network is formed by OÐHÁ Á ÁO hydrogen-bond interactions.

In the title compound, [Co(CH 3 ) 2 (C 13 H 13 O 2 )(C 3 H 9 P) 2 ], the Co is at the centre of a distorted octahedron, with two methyl groups trans to the chelating 2-formyl-4-phenylcyclohexen-1olato ligand forming the equatorial plane and two trimethylphosphine groups in the axial positions. The c
