โœฆ Synopsis

Acetic acid, calcium chloride, aluminium sulphate and polyacrylamide were tried for flocculation and settling of suspended solids. Adjustment of pH, centrifugation, precoat filtration with filter aid were studied for clarification of fermentation broth in alpha-amylase production.

Combination of aluminium sulphate and polyacrylamide as flocculating agents and precoat filtration was found to be the best strategy for alpha-amylase enzyme recovery from the broth.

## Abstract The effect of aeration rate on pullulan production and the rheological properties of the fermentation broth in an airlift reactor was investigated. An airlift fermenter was shown to be an appropriate fermentation system for the production of pullulan. A maximum pullulan concentration (3
