โฆ Synopsis
Ultrafiltration membranes having electric charge, made of sulfonated polysulfone, were manufactured. Two types of membrane having charge density of 1.6 and 0.78 meq/g, and designated as Ml and M2, respectively, were used. Rejections of various molecular weight PEG were first measured by using these membranes and transport parameters, the reflection coefficient and the permeability, were determined. From there values pore radius of each membrane was estimated.
Rejections of various inorganic solutes were next measured and transport parameters were determined as before. Theoretical treatment following the frictional interpretation was developed and used to explain the concentration dependence of transport parameters.

Although a number of previous studies have demonstrated that solution pH can have a dramatic effect on protein transport through ultrafiltration membranes, the exact origin of this behavior has been unclear. Experimental data were obtained for the transport of a broad range of proteins with differen
