Ahatract-The transfer behavlour of alkali metal Ions across the water-mtrobenzene mterface facthtated by nomomc surfactants poly(oxyethylene)dodecyl ethers (C,,E,) were mvestlgated by means of cychc voltammetry The results show a hnear dependence of the reversible half-wave potential 44,12 on the logarithm of the concentration of alkah metal Ions m the aqueous phase Therefrom, the apparent free energy change of ion transfer fac&ated by C,*E,, AZGP,, was determmed The results mdlcate that the ion transfer faclhtated by C,*E, 1s attnbutable to the formation of a hydrophobtc complex of alk& metal Ion with C,,E, and its ion pours ~th the counter amon, and the rate of transfer IS controlled by the ddiuslon of C,2Ex from the-bulk mtrobenzene phase to the interface.
