The luminiscent response to stimulation of sinall pieces of Mfiemiopsis leidyi tissue exhibits striking resemblances to certain aspects of muscle response (Chang, '54). The staircase phenomenon or "treppe" and summation of flashes result when the luminous tissue is stimulated at certain frequencies.
