## Methylenedioxy and dimethoxy-derivatives of the hexahydrocyclopenta[e]phenanthridine ring system. (2la) and (21b). have been synthesised stereospecifically in six steps starting from piperonal (50% overall yield) and dimethoxybenzaldehyde (27% overall yield), respectively.
