Abstract
The condensation of homophthalic acid (1) with 3βmethoxybenzoyl chloride, followed by demethylation gave 3β(3βhydroxyphenyl)isocoumarin (3b). Reaction of (3b) with Ξ±βtetraacetobromo glucose yielded tetraacetylhomalicine (3d), which was deacetylated to homalicine (3e).
