Charlie Fox, a former British army soldier who now spends her days protecting others. In this installment (after Second Shot, 2007), Agent Foxβs assignment hits a bit too close to home. Her physician father, who has long disapproved of his daughterβs line of work, finds his reputation in jeopardy when heβs wrongfully linked to an American patientβs death. Charlieβs father may have a cold demeanor, but his skills as an orthopedic surgeon are beyond dispute. Who would want to discredit himβand why? The subsequent kidnapping of Charlieβs mother offers some answers and ignites a cat-and-mouse game, in which Charlie and her security-agent boyfriend seek to protect Charlieβs parents at all costs. Fox is a satisfyingly complex character, the survivor of a brutal gang rape and multiple gunshots that have wounded both her body and mind.
