โฆ Synopsis
This is the third year that we have been able to organize and provide this award to stimulate the writing talent of our profession. This award is offered to optometry residents throughout North America who voluntarily participate in this scholarly activity. I have been a reviewer and cheerleader for this exercise for as many years and am continually impressed at the talent our residents possess in writing. Much of this is due in part to excellent guidance by directors and preceptors that stimulated these fine clinicians.
Dr Tony Litwak and I developed this program in 1994 and decided to ask former students of Dr Asarkof to referee solicited papers. We owe sincere thanks to Drs Joseph L. Rowey, Clifford Scott and Barry Fisch for their dedication to this task. They gave up much time to pursue excellence in John Asarkofs name. Joe Rowey and I spent much time with John who treated us as a great-uncle would. John Asarkof made vision care learning fun. He was always inquisitive, challenging, and thinking of ways to make us learn. He obtained much pride in guiding optometry students and ophthalmology residents in the Boston area. We could always go to him for advice, up to the day he passed away.
