✦ Synopsis

The proposed internal antenna has a small thickness of only 3 mm, yet it is capable of providing two wide operating bands at about 0.9 and 2 GHz so as to meet the bandwidth requirements of the GSM/DCS/PCS/UMTS systems. Details of the design considerations of the proposed antenna are described, and the experimental results of the constructed prototype are presented.

## Abstract A novel internal mobile phone antenna comprising a planar inverted‐F antenna (PIFA) and a low‐profile planar monopole, which are designed, respectively, for covering the DCS/PCS and GSM bands, is proposed in this paper. The PIFA and the planar monopole together occupy a compact volume o
