โฆ Synopsis
The distribution method was modified in several directions: petroleum ether was used as extracting solvent; the ratio of the volumes of the organic and aqueous phases was varied so as to keep the weight of the amine in the aqueous phase approximately equal to that in the organic phase; and the amine in the organic phase was determined by means of ultraviolet spectrophotometry. The distribution of the amine (p-anisidine) between the 2 phases was studied at different temperatures and different ionic strengths. The salting coefficient was determined at the different temperatures. The thermodynamic proton ionisation constant of the p-anisidinium ion was found to be 6 . 1 0 ~ 6.70X 1 0 . 0 0 ~ and 1 2 . 9 0 ~ at 10,20, 30 and 40T, respectively. The heat of proton ionisation was found to be 4.45 kcal. AG and AS were also determined.
