✦ Synopsis

Polarographic techniques have been used to investigate the complexing reactions in aqueous solution between kcaprolactam and nickel ion. The coordination number and stability constants of the complex have been determined polarographically. The method of Ringbom and Erilcsson using cadmium as indicator ion was used on the basis of reversible and irreversible character of electrode reactions at dropping mercury electrode. The stability constants obtained at various temperatures were used to calculate various therm&lynamic functions by graphical method.

Careful measurements of the hydrogen solubility at atmospheric pressure in nickel in equilibrium with Hz-gas have confirmed previous observations that the partial thermodynamic functions of H in Ni exhibit a strong temperature dependence. The kinetics of polarographic reduction ofCo(II) and Ni(I1) has been investigated in the presence of increasing concentration of complex forming agent uiz wzaprolactam at pH 6.2 under constant ionic strength. In both the cases the waves were found to be diffusion controlled and irreversible. The val
