From the variations in the current strength and voltage, as well as from temperature constancy and the sound of boiling, it was possible to tell when the mercury was actually in a state of ebullition. At a pressure of 2020 kg./cm.* the liquid boiled at 1435' C. These values are therefore less than the critical pressure and temperature of mercury.

The need for new and more reliable wear sensors for metal cutting is discussed. After a brief presentation of the principles of computer vision, the working principle of the system developed in this work is given. The algorithm employed is explained in some detail. Finally some experimental results
