โœฆ Synopsis

A simple analysis of a concentrator-assisted solar distillation unit has been presented in terms of concentrator and solar still parameters. An analytical expression for instantaneous thermal efficiency of the system is derived using the energy balance equation for each component of the system. It is observed that the instantaneous and overall efficiency of the concentrator-assisted solar still is significantly improved compared to a collector-cure-distillation unit due to reduced heat loss in the concentrator. The derived expression for instantaneous thermal efficiency can be used for testing of any solar distillation unit working under either a passive or active mode of operation.
