✦ Synopsis

The polycyclic nitramine, /3-hexanitrohexaazaisowurtzitane (HNIW), decomposes exothermically above 195Β°C, liberating large amounts of NO2 and NO and lesser amounts of CO, CO 2, HCN, HNCO, and N20 . A dark-colored residue remains.

## Abstract The fast thermolysis of N‐methyl substituted ethanediam‐monium dinitrate salts is described by temperature profiling/FTIR spectroscopy. The salts described are [CH~3~NH~2~CH~2~CH~2~NH~3~](NO~3~)~2~ (MEDD), [CH~3~NH~2~CH~2~CH~2~NH~2~CH~3~](NO~3~)~2~ (SDMEDD), [(CH~3~)~2~NHCH~2~CH~2~NH~3~

The gas products from rapid thermolysis of aminotetrazoles are discussed in terms of their potential to affect the burn rate of a composite propellant. 1,5-and 2,5-diaminotetrazole decompose by two competitive reactions. One reaction gives HCN, NH3, and N 2 and the other gives NtI2CN, NH3, and N 2.
