โœฆ Synopsis

The algae of the hot springs at Unai (11 diatoms, the rest bluegreen algae), Lasundra (11 diatoms, the rest blue-green algae), and Unapdeo (12 diatoms, the rest blue-green algae) are recorded in this paper . These include one new form . The specimens have been preserved in the Blatter Herbarium, St . Xavier's College, Bombay .

Unai is a village in Surat District on the Bilimoria-Waghai narrow gauge railway line of the Western Railway. The spring flows into a roofed tank at the rate of about 1,800 litres per hour . Water, overflowing from the tank, is channelled into another tank about 23 metres away. The temperature of the main tank varies from 54ยฐC to 58ยฐC . The algae grow profusely in this spring . The springs at Lasundra in Kaira District are situated about 13 miles from Dakor railway station on the Anand-Godhra line of the Western Railway . The springs are in three groups erupting into deep built-up tanks . The temperature of these springs varies between 38ยฐC and 58ยฐC ; the total discharge of all the springs being about 18,000 litres per hour . Algal growth is poor in these springs, possibly because bright sunlight is available in the deep wells only at midday. The hot spring at Unapdeo in East Khandesh District is about 33 miles from the town of Bhusaval . The water from the spring falls into a large tank . The temperature at the origin of the spring is about 60ยฐC . The temperature of the water in the actual tank is approximately 39 ยฐC. Algae grow fairly vigorously in the tank . The springs at Unai and Lasundra were visited thrice during the years 1958-1961, in the months of
