โฆ Synopsis
This paper, the third in the series on the algae of the hot springs of Western India, incorporates the results of investigations on the hot spring at Sav, a village two miles from the town, Mahad, in Kolaba district, on the banks of the river Savitri. A total of 50 taxa have been recorded (40 diatoms, the rest blue-green algae) . These include one new species, one new variety, and two new forms . The specimens have been preserved in the Blatter Herbarium, Botany Department, St . Xavier's College, Bombay .
There is only one spring at Sav, the water of which flows into a main tank from where it overflows into two adjoining tanks and small pools. The temperature of the water in the main tank has been recorded at 41 .5ยฐC, and the temperature of the two subsidiary tanks varies between 39ยฐC and 40ยฐC. The water flows at the rate of about 3,650 litres per hour . The spring was visited thrice during the year 1960-1961 in the months of May, December, and September in that order . The taxa marked with an asterisk have been recorded and described earlier by the authors in other hot springs (THOMAS & GoNZALVES, 1965,1965a) . BACILLARIO PHYCEAE 1 . Cyclotella comta (EHR .)
