โฆ Synopsis
A simple theory of the homogcncous broadening of vibrational lines in the lR and Raman spectra of mokculcs in liquids is grescntcd. TIE thcary considers the relationship bctwcen the linewidth and excited state lifctimc, Ilnramctcrs which may now lx indcpendcntly measured. It is used to qualitatively csplain the dcpendcncc of the lincwidth on tcmperuture and prcssurc and predict the rcI3tionship bctwccn the linewidths of fundamentals, hot hnds and overtones.
