✦ Synopsis
The theory of optimum control for distributed parameter systems is presented using a dynamic programming approach. These results have been previously presented, but the present two-part paper shows how an additional class of problems involving boundary control can be handled with the same theory. Use is made of the extended definition of the spatial operators involved. Also, a geometrical insight into the transversality conditions is presented. Algorithms for solving certain classes of problems are presented as well as numerical results obtained from them. The teehniques used in these simple problems suggest methods that can be adapted to more complex ones.
